>>111917010It gets more attention BECAUSE it was mediocre. Look at Marvel movies - they are praised because they have high Rotten Tomatoes score. But RT is not a measure of quality - it is simply a percentage of movies that get a positive review. If every critic gave exactly 5.5/10 to a movie, it'd have a 100% rating. It doesn't distinguish between a lukewarm review and a truly loving review.
See, stuff like Frozen or MCU - which is intentional part of Disney's strategy - isn't designed to be loved by many people. It's designed to be LIKED by EVERYONE.
Pretty much everyone who came out of Frozen went "that was okay". In contrast, movies like Zootopia or Spider-Verse or even Netflix Marvel series - actually take some risks. As a result, these movies are actually loved and adored by a group of people - but some people will hate them. Zootopia dares to have a message 'racism is bad and different races should cooperate' - and that alone will mean that like, Ku Klux Klan members won't like it. In contrast, I'm sure the same KKK goons would be fine taking their children to see Frozen.
And that's bad for business. It's much safer to create art that doesn't take any risks and doesn't say anything. It's safe, disposable popcorn entertainment, that everybody - absolutely everybody - will kinda like.
