Matt and Trey think they're shocking people by pushing the boundaries of tv, but the only boundaries the internet has is federal law, and even that gets treated like it's optional. They're just outdated and they need to either focus on being clever and satirical or focus on being funny, because 1999 South Park can't exist ever again.

South Park for the most part just hasn't been all that good since like what, Season 10? And even then it was still pretty uninspired in parts.

Like an episode that deals with (even if just metaphorically) the death of Epstein. Or something else that packs a bit of a punch

This. I've been rewatching some season 6,7 and 8 episodes and any references to the time those episodes were made were small plot points instead of being the entire goddamn episode like these days (with a few exceptions like the Scientology episode but at least they're being ballsy in that one)

I don't mean polite tongue-in-cheek jokes or poking fun at people or causes that everyone is sensitive about, but rip into them aggressively. They used to do this sometimes and it was funny. Now? They generally try not to be too offensive. That's a sad statement for show that is all about being offensive.

I don't get why people think M&T are trying to be offensive. You ever talk to a regular dude? The everyday guy holds a buttload of controversial/shitty opinions. It's nothing revolutionary. The only difference here is that M&T have the money and balls to broadcast their opinions on TV and tell censorship board to go fuck themselves if they don't like it. That's what set them apart i n the late 90s/early 00s.

People are just used to them now. They made it pretty clear the episodes are for their own entertainment and they make good dough out of it so why stop.
