>>111739036See, I think this is where we just have a disagreement on the very base of the issues, on what comic books should be: for you, they should reflect real life and its issues, and therefore try to be realistic. In that case yes, the idea of a dude, no matter how rich, fit and prepared, taking on vast criminal syndicates by himself and maintaining a secret identity falls apart. So does thinking about how much damage does a one-man-army do when facing against another equal force - something we'd call a battle or a war in its militaristic sense, and as someone living in a city where you can still find walls with bullet holes I know too well how destructive that can be.
For me however, I subscribe to a different philosophy: this is fiction, and it can go into realms of fantasy not exactly tied to real-life issues; especially in a universe with a godlike alien who's trying to be the best man possible, a king of the seas connected to all their life, a scientist who can discover live smaller than the size of atoms - is a super-athletic, obscenely rich man warring against crime so far removed from it?
That is not to say trying to analyze, deconstruct and reconstruct hero tropes and characters is wrong - but for me, in the end the fantasy, the escapism, should ultimately win out most of the time.
And when it comes to King's run (and his recent writing overall, see HiC and, to lesser extent, MM), it reeks of amateurish writing you'd expect from a fanfic, not a flagship comic book of a Big Two publisher. It is tone-deaf at times (what the fuck were the Booster issues), grossly mischaracterizes its protagonists, does not seem like a planned endeavour (see
