Will Vandom is the single greatest female character in cartoon history.

And a decent contender for greatest cartoon character of either sex.

She completely destroys the masculine/feminine dynamic in a way that feminist writers can only dream of doing. She's fiercely driven and independent as leader, a brilliant strategist with intelligence only matched by the other girls in this show - other cartoons need not apply. Yet she's also incredibly "soft" and insecure, especially when it comes to relationships - dating most of all, but also friendships, as seen at the beginning and whenever there's a rift between the girls.

Then there's her tomboyish-yet-feminine looks (the magical girl transformations make the contrast especially stark) and perfectly fitting voice by a VA who can do that entire range of personality (not to mention emotion) yet still sound appealing and not forced/unfeminine...

The fact the show packed all of this into an ordinary 13-year-old girl (essentially leading troops in a civil war no less) is already insane. What's most bewildering of all though is that her character in the comics is far more cliche and shows very few if any of these traits. Which means her show character was fundamentally written by the first season showrunners, two regular white dudes whose main cartoon experience is from Canada, where cartoons are so terrible you're hard-pressed to find one where every character isn't flat as a board. How the actual fuck
