After finishing all three episodes, the premise seems incredibly limited.
Like, is the ENTIRE show centered around amulet? The intro, theme song, and outro song makes it seem like the amulet and museum are the complete focus, so I have no idea how this story will even continue outside of the context of it.
The animation is incredibly cheap, but they use it for some great visual gags that wouldn't work as well with the more fluent animation of the intro, like the numbers and the "profile pic" cutaways. The artstyle is meh, it's unique and expressive, but it bothers me how the character's shading has nothing to do with their surroundings, and how some change proportions in between drawings (Indus being an incredibly obvious and egregious example),with the designs also being covered with some questionable choices (The hair is really fucking distracting on Molly for one, and it completely betrays the portrayal of her shy and introverted personality).
The VAs are fine except for the Doctor, he's screechy and annoying, and not in a good way, like they probably thought was happening. His appearance as Doctor Beefton was the most tolerable he was in the two episodes he appeared.
The music is pretty fucking good, no complaints
The writing is all over the pace in tone AND quality. The "My mom's dead" moments from Molly are completely misplaced, and are sandwiched in-between two high-energy moments, making them jarring tonal whiplash. The fact that Indus being a retard moved the plot along fucking twice was annoying as hell, and its a trope that I want to see die already.
Bit on the other hand, Giovanni and Molly's interactions are genuinely really sweet and funny. Giovanni is one of the better portrayals of "not REALLY a bad guy" in recent memory, even if it is becoming a bit too common. And as much as Indus annoys me, his stuff with Mera are pretty cute too.
Its 3/5 currently, shows a lot of potential, but I'm afraid of it losing steam and the problems only getting worse.
