>>111496684>objectively not wrong like porn, sex, or booze
Let's go through this in reverse:
Booze is not wrong per se. For most of its history, alcoholic beverages were the safest form of drink, what with the general lack of sanitation and food processing sterility that we enjoy today. And alcohol can serve to enhance socialization and enjoyment when used responsibly. But alcohol can be overindulged, leading to problems. Alcohol abuse damages the individuals who do it, their relationships with others, and society in general. Which is what wrongness is, morally speaking.
Sex is an important part of life, what with its role in reproduction and all. In order for successive generations to come about and be raised properly, the enjoyableness of sex encourages people to do it, and to form bonded relationships where children can be raised in a stable environment. Done responsibly, sex enriches the lives of those that do it, and supports the development of children and the community. Which is what goodness is, morally speaking. But sex and its related issues are a complex area, what with some of people's most important emotional, psychological, and social concerns all being mixed together. As with most complex things, it's a lot easier to do it badly than to do it well. The subset of sexual relationship models that tend to produce good life outcomes for all involved are a small subset of what is possible. For example, sexual partners have a hormonal response that enhances pair bonding, in order to encourage a stable relationship, because children raised by both parents are likely to do far better than children raised in other arrangements. Having multiple sexual partners reduces this pair bonding response, leading to less stable relationships and poor outcomes for children. Hence marriage and a taboo for extramarital sex. And there are actual reasons for other parts of traditional sexual morality, including porn and masturbation.
