>>111258890That is a surface level explanation at best. He many times acted out of context, sewing hate and blind judgement upon those who he had instead to educate. He wiped the Thunder Warriors after he conquered Terra, a seed that would bite him in the ass later on and His debate with the last priest was a disaster, showing how truly idealistic and hypocritic he was.
The Horus Heresy wasn't just 9 of his sons falling into chaos. It was the tale of how his overzealous idealism led to his greatest of mistakes.
He denied any spiritual entity, and thus allowed chaos to seep in, taking even honorable individuals such as Fulgrim and Horus.
He suppressed any expression of belief that wasn't in tune to his own. Lorgar and Kurze were led in such way.
He basically blackmailed Mortarion and Angron, taking away whatever honor they had in their miserable lives.
Finally, he suppressed the bright minds of Perturabo and Magnus, censoring what he stated to protect.
And honestly a lack of communication, fuck the Alpha Legion sided with Horus only because he was the only guy they were familiar with.
tl;dr He may have been fucked by the gods, but there have been times in which he should've known better.
