Not pictured in OP's post: details like how the right/left and top/bottom halves are differentiated.
top/bottom halves are order/chaos, or comfort/danger, or something to that effect -- the place journeyed to and returned from. Could be as simple as home and the hardware store. Could be the Shire and Mordor.
and I forget what he called the right/left halves, but it's basically "before Find" and "after Find", whatever the status quo is that is irrevocably altered. if the Find step is where the robot becomes self-aware, you can label the right half "Toaster Robot" and the left half "Sentient Robot".
and this is useful because now you can name quadrants and define goals for what happens in each step:
1. Everything is fine at HOME.
2. At HOME while TOASTER ROBOT, some need arises.
3. Transition from HOME to HARDWARE STORE
4. At HARDWARE STORE while TOASTER ROBOT, some searching occurs.
5. Transition between TOASTER ROBOT to SENTIENT ROBOT.
6. At HARDWARE STORE, some price is paid for SENTIENT ROBOT. (in this case probably a literal cashier rings up the order.)
7. Transition from HARDWARE STORE to HOME with SENTIENT ROBOT.
8. At HOME with SENTIENT ROBOT, seeing what has changed.
I just realized you could probably write an infomercial like this.
