>Movie begins with young Diana competing in an obstacle course in Themyscira. She falls behind and tries to cheat, but is caught by her aunt Antiope, who scolds her for trying to take the easy way out.

>In 1984, Diana (Gal Gadot) is working at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C. Wonder Woman is a beloved public hero. Early on, Diana befriends mousy archeologist Barbara Ann Minerva (Kristen Wiig), who both admires and envies her.

>The main villain, Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal), is a Southern con man who scams people on shady oil investments through cheesy TV ads. He also has a young son who lives with his ex-wife.

>The Smithsonian receives a magic stone that can grant people’s wishes, but at a cost. Lord steals it and wishes for its power to be his. He then becomes able to grant wishes by shaking people’s hands and asking them “What do you desire?” The wishes have a Monkey Paw effect on the wisher.

>Diana accidentally wishes for Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) to come back to life. Steve reincarnates in another man’s body, and only Diana sees him as Steve. He is now the fish-out-of-water that Diana has to acclimate to the modern world. The price for her wish is that Diana is severely depowered, to the point where she is vulnerable to bullets and knives.

>Lord realizes he grows stronger with each wish he grants and goes around doing so. One of his “victims” is Barbara, who wishes to be as badass as Diana is and becomes very sexy and confident and with super-strength. When Diana realizes what Lord is up to and tries to stop him, Barbara turns on her, unwilling to sacrifice her new life, and teams up with Lord.

>Since Diana can no longer fly, Steve and she steal a jet to chase after Lord and Barbara. Diana uses her never-before-mentioned power to turn things invisible to turn it into the invisible jet. At another point, Diana uses the Lasso of Truth (which still has power) to "fly" by lassoing bolts of lightning.
