>>110980432>Grant MorrisonSpeaking of Morrison, I'd feel a bit better about the New Gods movie if he were involved in the screenplay.
Unlike /co/, I actually LIKED Tom King's Mister Miracle. However, he was taking a Kirby character and doing a story with him that did not try to touch on Kirby's style at all. Instead of large, bombastic, comic-booky, and idiosyncratic mythology, it goes the opposite direction and does contained personal inner conflict, melancholy, and wistfulness. It's damn good at what it does, and I wouldn't be opposed to King injecting some of that in the movie, but I don't want an adaptation of his Mister Miracle. I want something Kirby-ish. King's take would be lost on people if not even explicitly contrasted to what "classic" New Gods tales are like, so it wouldn't make sense as an introduction to the universe for a new audience.
Morrison, though… his style is one of the the most clear successors to Kirby's in the mainstream comics world, along with maybe Keith Giffen's or something. Morrison knows how to do mythological, and he knows how to do weird.
If King and Morrison were collaborating on this, man, I would be damn excited.
