Clark embodies hope.
Batman embodies vengeance.
Diana embodies love.
All three embody justice, this is what binds them together as friends.
All three lack something that the other two have, which is where sources of conflict frequently occur in their group dynamic.
Bruce and Clark embody mercy, the two having strict rules about taking a life. Diana has no qualms killing and only stays her hand as often as she does for the sake of the other two.
Diana and Clark embody truth. Batman is overly secretive even with friends, often to the point of his and their own detriment.
Bruce and Diana embody, for lack of a better singular word maybe somebody can help me out, realistic expectations. Clark is usually the first to see the best in humanity and the last one to lose faith in it, while Diana and Bruce are often more grounded and understand that some forces are just inherently shitty and that Clark's viewpoints are often naive.
Then there's simply the thematic nature of the heroes, each one embodying one of the three major classic super hero serials types (Though all three dip their toes in the others from time to time)
Clark's primary threats and stories heavily focus on science fiction elements like space aliens, mad scientists, and giant robots.
Bruce's primary threats and stories focus on more grounded and gritty, focusing on mobsters, psychopaths, and boots on the ground detective work.
Diana's primary threats and stories focus on mysticism, like gods, magic, and monsters.
