Disappointed at lack of Spinel interacting with other characters. Also less focus on physically fighting badguy and stopping doomsday device.
Movie too focused on having amnesia plot, Spinel ends up awkwardly tacked onto the side/background of important character growth scenes. Unsure if this was their intent.
Feel lyrics of main CG trio's "memory regain songs" could have been better directed toward Spinel, emotionally getting under her skin in the way "Change" pinched her.
The songs wouldn't even necssarily belong in the same order if the movie had more focus on the character of Spinel, because the lyrics FEEL like they were made for interaction with Spinel
No Matter What
>"Through whoever you've been, Through whoever you'll be, You will always have me, I'm gonna be right by your side no matter what."
Disobedient
>"I think about all the wasted time I spent~ I wanna be~ Disobedient!"
>"I've been good, sir~ So very, very good for what? And I've given you~ Every single thing I got~ It's feeling strange, man~ This whole arrangement~ Is gonna end with me totally deranged"
Independent Todether
>"Nothing is holding me back now~ No one can push me around~ What do I wanna be? I'm the master of me~"
True Kinda Love
>"Everybody's looking for someone to blame~ Like it's a game~ And now I am better than "win-or-lose"~ There's a new direction that I like to choose~"
The ambient songs with focus on spinels theme, "Downward Spiral" "Not Good at All" leave me curious about the "toxic" Spinel Rebecca Sugar seems too have a concept of.
Granting the crystal gems more time with Spinel and diving deeper into her problems, exploring her unstable personality and habits of relapsing and rebounding due to fear of ghosting, rejection, loneliness, ect.
And showing her sinister side via manipulation, blaming her faults on others, twisting others into feeling guilty for sticking up for themselves and/or manipulating others into spreading her abusive and "toxic" relationships.
