>>110571778I think it's probably just because the writers of those stories are catering to people who are borderline media-illiterate and who only consume stories with exaggerated all-or-nothing characters, like a typical action movie hero, anime protagonists, and so on. It's a very cynical creative decision, they probably think very little of mass audiences.
Superman's curse is that he'll outlive the people he loves. He still finds life worth living and people worth loving. There's a story worth telling there about the inevitability of loss and how to be strong in the face of it, and it's one that the best writers of Superman have told. It's also a story that some shitty writers choose not to tell because they want to entice the masses into buying their "exciting" story about vengeance, but their creative failure doesn't mean the character is fundamentally shallow or lacks depth.
