It's a breath of fresh air to the grim-serious Batgod we usually see anymore, it *actually felt* like it did celebrate DC as a whole despite being a Batman-starring show, and it even made fun of Batgod, which made it a lot more bearable ironically enough. It's just one of the "different versions within living memory" I spoke of, but it ALSO got flak for initially being more DCAU, which is really telling.
>>110414589DC's obsession with edginess and grimdark since The Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen is finally biting it in the ass now, and biting it HARD, since they've run Batgod to the ground and have no clue how to write not just some optimism but innately understand any non-Bat characters anymore....all they know how to do is grim-and-gritty vigilantes or occasionally them fighting evil omnipotent supermen.
>>110414760I agree. BATB also kinda got it right of all things, keeping him 'serious' and 'determined' but not grim or dark. He's gonna be the smart no-nonesense guy in any team-up, but he doesn't have to drag everything down or 'ground' it or make it 'dark' to work with him. His smarts will be as extraordinary as Superman's strength so why pull everything down to grim-and-gritty or street-level all the time?
