I was a little kid during 9/11 so I more or less grew up after that event, but going back and listening to the Howard Stern show during the even, it's surprising how much anti-Islamic sentiment had already been present. As soon as there was reports a plane hit, everyone was all "Well we know who must've done this one" and callers were getting on the line talking about how those "damn towelheads" deserved a nuke up their ass.

I seem to recall quite a few good years before 9/11 there was a terrorist attack and a newspaper or magazine when covering it had the headline "In the name of island" or somehting similar.
It turned out the attack had nothing to do with muslims at all, though

When 9/11 came around people had already lived through several other terroists attacks caused by muslims. heck the twin towers alone had already attacked by a muslim before 9/11.

Dystopian future with a LOT of cheap satire that isn't as funny as they thought it was. That being said there are many really good moments and it gets more grounded as it goes along. Martha is a great ongoing character but because she isn't 'perfect awesome' (and probably because she was written by Miller) she's been criminally ignored by modern audiences who you'd think would be all about her.
