TIMELY'S GREATEST: THE GOLDEN AGE SUB-MARINER BY BILL EVERETT -- THE POST-WAR YEARS OMNIBUS HC Written by BILL EVERETT Penciled by BILL EVERETT Covers by BILL EVERETT Marvel presents TIMELY'S GREATEST, a series of once-in-a-lifetime volumes presenting the greatest stories of the Golden Age, when Marvel was known as Timely Comics! After his service in World War II, Bill Everett returned to the Sub-Mariner without missing a beat. In fact, Everett's art and storytelling was better than ever. Never before reprinted, his postwar Sub-Mariner and Namora tales are anarchic, energetic and utterly endearing! This volume also features Everett's fan-favorite 1950s Sub-Mariner revival during Marvel's Atlas Era. Alongside Namora, Princess Fen and intrepid love interest Betty Dean, Namor faces off against the nefarious Prince Byrrah, his own doppelgänger, giant crocodiles and Communists aplenty! These stories define the Sub-Mariner in a way never captured in any comic series before or since! Collecting material from SUB-MARINER COMICS #21-24, #26-30 and #32-42; NAMORA #1-3; MARVEL MYSTERY COMICS #84-86 and #90-91; HUMAN TORCH COMICS #28, #30 and #37-38; BLONDE PHANTOM COMICS #17; YOUNG MEN #24-28 and MEN'S ADVENTURES #28. 568 pages, $126.

>>110135019 This should've been a miniseries, 12 issues of padding.
>>110135599 Ohhh well, I had no idea. I'll have to read on them.
>>110135253 Like someone else said, the problem with these books is that they're intentionally stunted because it has to cover stuff that doesn't contradict whatever the movies do, and since there's no supplemental material they can base them of, they have to play it too safe. Soule's Darth Vader took place in a period of time that was simply unseen in between movies (and won't be touched upon), so it had more freedom. But this? I don't see it working as well.
But I'll give it a go.

I haven't bought Marvel or DC in years. Even then I thought variant covers were overdone and their artificial scarcity was an unfunny joke. How the fuck have they gotten even worse with these fucking things?! You know how many of them I see flooding discount grab bags in stores? I even saw some of those DC lenticular covers in a three dollar bag at a Five Below store. Though I don't think those were even variants. They just flooded the market with them on every fucking issue. Shit. Even back in the 90s they saved the foil covers and variants for some kind of event or story beat. What that says to me is that either Hickman is going to argue that everything that has happened to the X-Men previously took place in a previous life of Moira's that ran very similarly for the rest of the world, or there will be some further explanation down the road, but at face value, I believe the Life of Moira X that the events of HoX and PoX are primarily set in is taking place within the primary timeline shared by the majority of the rest of Marvel's monthly books.

These threads never cease to make me miserable. Each week I come in with a sliver of hope of finding something worthwhile, and each week I'm disappointed. Although, as stupid as Ghost-Spider is, it's considerably MOAR stupid that they took her out of her alt-universe and had her become a student in 616 where there are already multiple OTHER Spider-Women ( and, of course, Miles was already imported prior ).
Go fucking forbid they ever have a character not based around fucking Manhattan Island in the 616 universe.

My theory is that Editorial has an eye to the DC shows on the CW, because I didn't hate the Hawkeye run by Kelly Thompson but when it transitioned into West Coast Avengers it was pure cringe ( and I saw an interview with her where she strait up admitted that Gwenpool being on the team WASN'T her idea because HOW THE SHIT DO YOU MAKE META POWERS LIKE THAT WORK IN A TEAM BOOK?? ).
Books like WCA, Mr & Mrs X, Amazing Mary Jane, and pretty much every single run on Captain Marvel since she started going by "Captain" again just read like Image style tv/movie pitches to me.

The only question mark here is the inclusion of Daredevil Annual #10? If you're going to add a random Daredevil issue there are loads I would have chosen in place of that one. It's almost kind of frustrating seeing that in here.

It's "material from" Daredevil Annual #10, and there was a Black Widow backup story there, they'll be including that for completeness, not the annual's main story.

And, to be fair, it's just like with the stupid Big Events, which they've been doing since The Mutant Massacre and Inferno all the way back in the 1980's: as long as the punters buy it they'll keep churning it out.
I thought Thanos Wins was pretty based, wasn't impressed with CGR as a solo character rather than as an amusing side character, and just stopped reading anything with him in it after that.
