Is there such a thing as a truly irredeemable Spider-man story? Peter's character alone redeems weak plots, even if his witticisms are the only saving graces. He's just that good of character. You can have a badly written story and it will be mediocre. However, you cannot have a poorly-wrtten Pete.
It's arguable that Spider-man is the posterboy of comics. Look at the front page of the catalog, it's guaranteed that there's at least one Spidey thread up at all times.
