Reeds main style is just subduing his enemies, usually by enveloping them, this is something that could never work on Spider Man, who at around adult age is stronger than the Thing(not a mention a whole lot smarter). Usually Reed would just bide time and find a way to coordinate his team, or use some sort of invention to take Spider man down. That being said, if Reed was a more aggressive fighter by nature, then maybe.
