>>109017633>Ant-Man and the Wasp floppedIt didn't flop, but it was kinda shafted.
The first Ant-Man didn't review as well as it might, it came at a weird point in the MCU (kinda between phases), and the concept of Ant-Man was just a bit off for many normies. I had friends IRL who didn't go see Ant-Man because "lol Ant-Man what kind of a hero is that?!"
So for starters, Ant-Man and the Wasp were following from a movie that was already a bit of a black sheep. To make matters worse, it got absolutely shafted in it's release schedule, coming shortly after Infinity War. It was very common to see complaints about how it felt deflated following the tension of IW, how the plot felt irrelevant, people were confused by the timeline, etc. It reviewed well, but it started very squarely on the back foot.
I hope things are looking up somewhat, given that Ant-Man turned out to be such a crowd favorite in Endgame. That said, we didn't get anything Ant related in the recent announcements, did we? Maybe ol' Ants will get shafted again?
The future is open though. Ant-Man is somewhat popular now, and people seem to like Wasp too (though she didn't get as much exposure in Endgame). There are several potential plots to set on regular-Earth (the Hydra agent that got away with the shrink-tech in the first Ant-Man movie, the unnamed secret bad guy who employed Sonny in Ant-Man and the Wasp, maybe more Ghost stuff), as well as super wacky shiz in the quantum realm. They can keep future movies as grounded or as wacky as they want. The sky's the limit.
