It's probably the best of the pre-Spongebob nicktoons honestly when taken as a whole, and is still shockingly relevant. Some of the gags are absolutely hilarious and some episodes are 11/10, like the golfing one. I'd strongly recommend it if you want to see a strong 90s cartoon, general critique of modern life, or just enjoy animation.

Animation wise the lineart is the worst part of this.

Every single line is exactly the same thickness due to it being done digitally instead of traditionally. Part of great animation is going off-model, and that extends to the lineart too. It's visually unpleasing to look at totally consistent "perfect" lineart, it looks instantly artificial and it's boring too. They didn't even bother to add a pen filter to the lineart to make a few imperfections that you would naturally get with handdrawn pens. So this doesn't look right at all.

Humor wise this plot sounds pretty awful. I don't know what the hell compelled them to make a bad decision like "Rocko is frozen in time for 20 years and spends 30 minutes trying to get the Fatheads back on screen" as the story to go with.

I’m pretty sure Static Cling was completed long before Nick threw it over to Netflix. Joe Murray and his team were probably given fewer restrictions since this would be a one-time special and because of the show’s infamous history of being more risqué than the average “kids’ cartoon.”

Not really; the average tablet has touch sensitivity so you can get varying line weights.

Doing the crappy lines that are all the same thickness just seems to be a time-saving measure or something.

I'd enjoy seeing a fun story with Rocko and pals, but I hate that they're making such a big deal of the characters self-consciously saying they're returning from the '90s.
It isn't funny, and when they play it up this much, it's like they're just cynically admitting "we want to cash in on nostalgia."

I can’t remember exactly why, but I have a weird feeling this actually happened in the original show. I’m not sure if that’s how it ended, but I think I remember them getting frozen for decades or launched into space or something.

Who is the target audience for this? It feels like a boomer comic with all the focus on the absurdities of modern technology, but this was a show loved by 90s kids. People who would make up a bulk of the consumers who find things like smartphones and 3d movies completely mundane.

How would it not? Nicktoons are shows produced specifically for Nick, and that's what Kablam was. The wraparounds and all of the main shorts were made for Nick. Occasionally there would be a short that wasn't made for the show or the channel, but that was rare.

Nick still owns the rights to a majority of the shorts but some were essentially Nicktoon pilots that were never picked up, the rights to which reverted to the original creator of said pilots.
