This is why writers won't do realistic villains most of the time, to worried that people will mistake them for non-vilians or even good guys.

When you think about it, the Horde's potential to be okay people is part of what makes them bad. They didn't start out with some kind of mania. They aren't forced to drink human blood and weren't born literally made out of evil. They CHOOSE to do things the way they do them.

The horde's fatal flaw is apathy. They don't care and will do whatever it takes to get what Hordak wants. The monarchies, although shit (glimmer did get her first team killed), aren't a single-minded faction. Some are even empathetic.

The biggest thing the horde has going for it is the brutal results-driven leadership compared to the fluffy nepotism of the other realms. Take pic related for example. It's canon that Glimmer has lead missions and is chomping at the bit to be given more responsibility despite her series of failures for no other reason than because she's Queen Mommy's little girl. You think the Moon Guard enjoy their lives being in the hands of a commander who can literally vanish if they stuff up? Hell no. Hordak may not lead from the front but at least his officers have to deal with the consequences of their failures.

We also seen the Horde act way more support of new tech and innovation than it's counterpart nations. In fact the very survival of the later depends largely on ancient, stagnating psuedo-tech. When you pitch Progress vs Tradition, some folk will side with Progress even if the Pro-progress side is cartoonishly evil.

The most enjoyable way to watch this is rooting for the horde and their antagonisim while picking apart the staus quo goverment of the 'good guys'

Also catra is by far the most three dimensional character on the show

It bothers me that the kingdoms the Princesses are protecting are treated as an afterthought in the show. The only one we really get to see is Perfuma's.

There both hierarchical entities, what makes the Great Rebellion so much better than the Horde.

Until Hordak also did Phoboacracy, which worked horribly:First frightening Catra too much to come clean, then deciding to throw away the best commander he had to instill fear in everyone else.
