Like Simba's Pride in 1998, this movie suffers the legacy of TLK.
Simba's Pride was probably one of the best direct to video sequel made by Disney between the end of the 90s and the start of the 00s.
However, it was compared to TLK.
It is like comparing a Maserati to a Ferrari.
A Maserati is good, but a Ferrari wil always be better.
It's the same for this one. It isn't that bad, per se. It's just a remake of the best movie made by Disney. If TLK didn't come out in '94, we would be loving this one.

The Scar and Hyenas relationship doesn't make sense. In the original they think Scar is their friend and the "oh Scar it's just you" line is enough to establish they have an existing relationship. Nos with Shenzi as the leader they know Scar is full of shit and they're using each other. They're to quick to trust him and to quick to turn

Really, the hyenas all seemed like afterthoughts. Their dynamics were completely ruined. Two of them were renamed, and none of the three hyenas really seemed like friends. Hell, Shenzi barely interacted with the other hyenas and spent more time talking to the lions.
