it's like how the hardest thing for us to do is mimic a particular human's face when drawing/sculpting/making a rubber mask. We're too close to it. We can't even look at our own faces in the mirror and actually see what's there, we'll see this shifting, half-idealized version of it. The brain's too keyed on 'face!' to see the skin or its dimensions or anything
