I don’t have any involvement with that directly, but I can confirm it varies widely between shows. For example, to get IBO, Demarco has to physically travel to Japan to deal with Sunrise directly. Obviously that was a lot of extra overhead cost on our end to consider. Other shows have been resolved in a short phone call.
Actual license prices are a tricky game. Often times we get a bargain on brand new content because the distributor wants it to air to advertise an upcoming BD. If we lean towards something else, they raise the price on everything else till we pick what they want us to pick or walk away.>>108573344

Saturday is low importance time, but we still need to fill the time. Toonami does that well enough, but as I mention in the answer above, it is starting to reach a troublesome low. We also have to consider what shows we have that could fill the time if it was gone, and that pool is not as huge as you may think
