Think about it. If a fat character already exists but just doesn't look hot why would the fetishists go after it? Despite their fetishes, said fetishes aren't overriding to the point where they supersede what may already broadly be considered attractive. Instead, the fetishists, already with a target of attention, will project those fetishes onto the things they find attractive but don't necessarily fulfill those fetishes as-is. This is much to the annoyance of some people, plainly, but since people like drawing completely nonsensical out-of-character fetish pornography, cheesecake, etc. there is no end in sight.
