>>108472197The great thing about many of the animated series of the 90's were that the writers took genuine risks to develop the characters and stories. The stakes were fantastic, but all the characters were started with a foundation of a basic humanity and pushed towards some tragic means or even ends.
It didn't mean that villains didn't end up comically 2 dimensional, but it did mean that when the writers did like the characters, they were able to be very creative. They sure liked a lot of the characters.
