>>108507954Much like how a lot of what people like about retro video games was only present because of the hardware limitations of the time, what anime was like then was due to economic and cultural trends, as well as the medium on which it was spread. None of those things will ever come back because what made them exist in the first place will never come back.
And as technology continues to advance we'll move further and further away from those limitations that made those artistic creations possible and in to the triteness that we have now.
This is not a case of nostalgia as I was born after this "golden age" ended, nor is it a case of "le wrong generation", but just the reality of the way things are going: worse and worse over time. It's like anti-Whig History, were things are just regressing to a worse state as time goes on.
But going back to animation, one thing that these limitations caused, which I love, is how vibrant, or dark, the light sources were. You'd have lights made by shining a light through the back of the cell, and it would bleed slightly in to the surrounding scenery, as well as create a "real" light which digital media just can't capture. it's the same with blacks, which were blacker due to the nature of CRT televisions at the time.
