99% of Bart's classmates from season 1 were immediately discarded and rendered into crowd fillers. Wendel? Louis? That other kid that hung out with Wendel and Louis?

Bart's entire class got boiled down to him, Martin, Milhouse and Nelson. And sometimes Todd, if he goes to public school that particular week.

I think the only reason they even escaped season 1 is because they're basically the only girl students apart from Lisa. I honestly think there's only them and Janey that are really noteworthy.

They were originally meant as Bart's recurring antagonists (see the DVD commentary for Homer's Odyssey) but Nelson turned out to be a better, funnier character.

I always thought what they should have done was make her a foil to Lisa's idealism. Like she's kind of a sarcastic jerk who shoots down all of Lisa's idealistic beliefs. The other girl (Becky) should be like an airhead who has a perpetual crush on Bart.

At least that's what I would have done.
