John and Terezi were the only characters by the end who deserve anything good happening to them, everyone else should suffer in an infinite abyss of misery and pain as they watch John and Terezi create and populate a new Universe with their descendants.

If we're limiting it to the kids, then Roxy. Not for anything she did during act 6, but solely for the reveal that everything Mom did was 100% sincere. The fact that their whole passive aggressive rivalry thing was entirely in Rose's head, and Mom was just an excessively affectionate, rich, drunk the entire time was on of the most enjoyable character twists in the story.

Blackrom isn't just hatefucking or murdersnogging. That's the black equivilent of a whirlwind romance or one night stand - more typical blackrom is supposed to be capable of maintaining a stable relationship. It's not really supposed to be intuitive (for humans) but I think that Johnrezi is actually a really good example, despite John's quadrant confusion. They irritate the fuck out of each other, butt heads constantly, but collaborate very effectively and weirdly miss each other (a lot) when they aren't around.

I think a big part of her underlying personality is the desire to be sincere and honest, and it took a long while to peel away the mask of irony and coolness she wore for so long. She was surrounded her whole life by ironic and tough individuals, so it took some adjusting to let down her guard around John, the most honest person she could meet and who she very much wanted to be honest with as well.

The epilogues don't seem like they were intended to reverse the decline or anything, considering they were never promoted by anyone but a few employees on twitter. It was something made for the small amount of people still currently hanging on to homestuck in 2019, and the content reflected that with a bunch of depressed characters who have issues moving on with their lives

I'm not sure John CAN be a daddy dom type character. He wants to be the kind of hero that goes on a mystical quest and rescues a princess, to be chivalric. He's more a masochist due to this, desiring to feel conflict in his blood and accepting pain if it'll keep the people he cares about safe. He seems fine with the teasing Terezi has going on and responds in turn, but she knows he's honest at heart. It's different from what she thought she wanted at first.

These kids needed therapy, not an entire planet to rule at 16 with nobody to keep them in check. And they could have gotten therapy from each other. Their fundamental flaw is, and always has been, isolation.

If Homestuck ever ends for real I guarantee the "solution" will center around friendship and communication. The thing that was the basis of the entire comic, and the failures and increasing elusiveness of which were the driving force of so many problems.

My fave wasn't done too dirty. There were plenty of parts with her that delivered on things I always wanted

Does Hussie actually believe this? Of course people have 'arcs', in that they change as people due to age, experience, and self-actualization over the course of their lives. Who you are now is very different from who you were at 13, and you can point to key points in your life as being instrumental in how you matured.

That didn't happen with Homestuck. Things happened, usually things we didn't get to see or experience, and then the characters changed arbitrarily to move the plot along. Like Terezi and Karkat's falling out with Gamzee on the asteroid. We get *told* it happened, but we don't see any of it or experience the major formative events of the relationship breakdown. Instead we're given 'remember when Gamzee and Terezi were hate-fucking and now she hates herself and is addicted to faygo? Also she can see because she had herself healed because of that self-loathing Gamzee totally caused.'
It all just reeks of Hussie saying 'I didn't write it because it wouldn't work logically, and if it didn't work the plot would fail. So I just had the characters undergo MAJOR development off-screen.'
It's all so tiresome.

The trolls largely didn't talk to their Denizens because they were raised to be elite warriors and elite arriors do not negotiate eith their foes, just conquer. The fact that Karkat doesn't even know himself how he got his Denizen to release the Hoard is another overcompensation due to Karkat's inadequacy in combat.

It's jealousy and him subconsciously emulating his ancestor, who did have that sort of relationship with the Disciple. Like Karkat just assuming Terezi and him are gonna wind up in a blackrom and trying to schedule Terezi's relationship around himself and Dave. She had enough of that kind of stuff.

Thus characterizing the Denizens as a possible choice instead of a final boss, and also emphasizing that perhaps Karkat not being so good in combat against his Denizen wasn't a bad thing after all.

And due to this he had no idea what to do beyond being bros with Dave, the only person who would give him the time of day.

How would you have him improve, and to what extent?

I'm glad you asked, motherfucker, because the key is in his backstory. We never see that he's even fully aware of his heritage or what his ancestor did. That's an obvious route of self discovery to go down, with Karkat delving a bit deeper then and finding some manner of peace with how atypical of a troll he is. From the start he was a square peg trying to ram itself into a round hole, after all.

Hell, elaborate on his weird semi-paternal friendship with Spades. There's a lot of good stuff there, is what I'm saying.

I always took the awakenings to be more a spiritual awakening-type thing. Only once you have reached a certain point in your life can you awaken your dream self and become more open to the magic and mystery that the game presents.

Part of the issue with this is he had no one to relate to about discovering it. Here's a solution: When John decks Vriska, he also warps the meteor to the Green Sun, saving Sollux from half-dying. Thus, Sollux comes along for the ride, and now Karkat has someone to relate to that isn't just Dave alone. Aradia can keep the other Sollux.

Karkat had the unfortunate effect of both most of his friends dying or abandoning him, and departing to a destination of humans. Also, he despised Kankri and refused to take any advice, just entrenching himself in his belief that the Dancestors are all shit, except for Meenah.

Not really, it's explained well when she messages Vriska about how she needs strong personalities to try and complete herself, because she feels hollow and doesn't know how to manage it. By herself, she makes stupid mistakes that she regrets. She needed help and didn't know how to ask for it until the epilogues, where she found John.

You never really understood what Caveney's relation to Anderson was, or why he wrote this book about him. His ambivalent attitude toward your favorite magician in these anecdotes always struck you as a little weird, and to be honest, you tend not to read much of the text in the book. You mostly like to look at the diagrams for all the cool tricks.

But he can't actually escape from the homoeroticism itself! He's personally preoccupied with all of the same tricks that Anderson "queers", and with the diagrams thereof. In the comic, he immediately acts out the "a-hole trick" -- which is itself a joke about anal fingering in specific, and homosexual sex in general -- and it becomes the basis of the creative recombination of Alchemy.

Through his mastery of retcon mechanics, John obtains the power to literally make things unhappen, thereby becoming a symbolic wizard, a performer of magic, a magician, and a queerer of tricks:

This confrontation comes from the same series of conversations where John interrogates Dave and Karkat about their relationship and sexuality, by the way; Hussie could not be more blatantly obvious with the symbolism and subtext if he rubberstamped all of the characters in question with rainbow ink, but this symbolism has always been here, since the very first pages of the comic. Like, hello? John has this shit, and Rose is a goth lovecraft fetishist who flirted with Kanaya basically from the beginning. Dave has always been falling into a complex crisis of failed masculinity, and he's been accused of homosexuality from the start of the comic. We can dunk on the epilogues for fetishizing Jade, but she's always been a canonical furry, a member of a subculture associated with queerness, and her merger with her male dog, a moment of implicit ascension to divine androgyny, is widely regarded as one of her crowning and defining moments within the comic.

You can only think that "everyone is slowly turning gay" if you start from the naive assumption that every character is heterosexual, and ignore all characterization to the contrary until you're confronted with inescapable proof -- at which point you can only conclude that this twist and turn of narrative came out of nowhere.

I think you're nust interpreting things that aren't purposefully there.
That entire section on the book can be read two ways: he's gay or he appears gay. Both outcomes are equally possible and allow the joke to be multi-layered with John.
Also, John didn't retcon his sexuality to allow him to reciprocate Terezi's alien romance, he still loves her like a human does, the blackest he'll go is teasing, no biting back, or hitting or threating or choking.
Rose and Kanaya are not an arguement as their "flirting" can also be seen as just friendly jabs. Their married yes, but they could have been just friends with the mostly the same dialogue.
Jade does want to be a furry but not the yiffing kind.
Roxy's name reveal is a huge asspull and only there because of the joke reveal for dirk's name. And her ring is a call forward to what john does to her.

Jade is a known party animal, and confirmed huge slut, but all she really wants is a healthy loving long-term relationship.

Also, it doesn’t really explain why she started hating trolls in the first place. I mean, if she wanted to figure out how to control the population, why didn’t she ask the Beforus Trolls how their soft, mollycoddling society did it, because they sure as fuck didn’t cull or engage in war.
And what about the tealbloods and up? They live for hundreds, of not thousands of years. How is the population not going to increase when 10-15% of it outlives the rest by an order of magnitude? And even if that somehow works, these are still Alternian Trolls and psychopath is a personality type among those higher on the hemospectrum.

My personal pet theory is that the Mother Grub system existed primarily for the purpose of ensuring as much cannon fodder was bred as was reasonably possible, with problem trolls being culled before they could fail in the field or cause strife within the chain of command.
So it stands to reason that the population would explode if trolls wern't being shipped off world. Hell, it's stated in the comic that Kanaya has *a* retired Mother Grub. That's not really the core issue.
Everyone can agree that population control for the trolls would probably be for the best, but they also don't have any positions in government, are kept from certain jobs, ect ect.
It's supposed to be analogous to how real life fascism starts with things that sound good but ultimately lead to mass oppression and even genocide.

Equius tries to boss around Aradia but she winds up bossing him around. He also successfully bosses Nepeta.
If stoned Gamzee, he doesn't do anything to work on the project. Tavros tries to help but is useless. Kanaya has to do the whole thing herself. If sober Gamzee, he brings a gun to class.
Eridan complains about how hard the project is but doesn't actually do anything to work on it. Sollux complains about how hard the project is but works on it diligently. Terezi does her part and ignores the other two.
Karkat tries to take charge and completely gives up when Vriska refuses to let him. Feferi does her thing.

It's a neutered version of Homestuck, which only has trolls (which have none of the things that make alternian trolls funny or stand out), so it's perfect for the scraps of the fandom that's left that's starving for content after Homestuck's over. Couple that with Xamag's art and you got a pretty good substitute to Homestuck for the current community. Granted, it's unsustainable. The author already started his own not!FriendSim and it's got a sizeable amount of volumes (and drama! But that's neither here or there) already, not to mention that Vast Error has its own site by now (Deconreconstruction). But for all it's trying out, it's never going to be able to leave the shadow of Homestuck by its very nature, nor will it be able to withstand Tumblr's incredibly toxic community (as seen by the Wendigo naming incident), which makes it all the sadder, because, from what I hear, the author worked on this for 7 years now, and it had potential! But now... I don't know, maybe he'll pull through, maybe the community will eat the comic alive. Time will tell.

Moreover, Dirk understands paradox space and timelines well enough to know that there was no real way to change events or do anything differently. The Condense's extermination of humanity was a function of the timeline, unchangeable without incurring a paradox. compare the way its crafting system is revealed to the way homestuck's is handled

homestuck's crafting system is based on principles of computer science. it uses datawise operations to combine various principles of items, with any object being reducible to a 64-bit code represented alphanumerically. This is not intuitively obvious, but it can be puzzled out - and it is! we see the characters (john, mostly; this is the only smart thing he does over homestuck's entire run) actually work the system out.

vast error's is a typical video game crafting system where you click on the items and click combine. we find out because we get a lot of dialogue, way more than is necessary, explaining this to us.

so: homestuck's systems take some thinking to work out, and the audience gets to see how the characters do it. vast error's take no thought, but we get exhaustive detail anyways.

VA tends to focus a lot more on the characters and their relationships and the troll lore of Repitan, and game mechanics only in a secondary manner. A lot of peeps (including Xamag I suppose) liked those aspects a lot more, so those aspects get explore more.

Maybe it does, so far it's known that there're 2 gods (one of "existence" and another of "reality", whatever the fuck that means) and one hurt the other, the SBURB-like plot is to make trolls/creatures strong enough to slap the attacker's shit and, from what I've heard, the relationship between the gods in question is... similar to the limeblood and the indigo? What are you guys favorite Homestuck memories? One of mines was watching the community flourish. I remember seeing some random fanart on my feed, then a few days later somebody created a whole cosplay out of it. I really liked how the comic encouraged creativity with the fanmusic, fanart, and cosplays. While I do hate how Act 6 turned out, I personally won't let that stain the happy memories I have of the comic.
