>>108077143>>108087203>’Let me generalize every recent Pixar film as a ‘mismatched couple road-trip movie’ so I can expose how they’re out of ideas! Mwahahaha!’ Nigga, that is BASIC STORY STRUCTURE. A good storyteller knows that characters come first, so having a movie star two opposite personalities creates clashing and conflict (drama and/or comedy stems from this). The characters will need a goal that they’re working towards in order for a story to even happen. And the journey allows that to happen so said characters can reach their goal while also meeting new people & surroundings and growing in the process.
Many well-written films in general—but animated films, especially—will have those qualities, and Pixar does that while still making every world, cast of characters, and story a unique and entertaining experience. The phrase you came up with just describes the basis for good story structure.
I swear, this board gets cynical for no fucking reason. Pixar may have had a few duds this decade (what studio doesn’t?), but they’re still absolutely killing it. And while I admit that TS4 is definitely a cashgrab, I’m sure the Pixar writers and artists still managed to make it much better than it has any right to be.
