Modern epic is already epic, and ending to City of Bane will be rewritten to close up the story. Also it doesn't have to be finished to stand on its merit. 90% of single issues from this run are already very good in a vacuum.

King was fired because WB pussied out and refused to commit to his vision, perhaps it was too daring and corporate was afraid of other, inferior writers not being able to follow it up. It is a valid concern if you're only interested in making money and not creating art. I'm sure they would happily agree to everything if King would sign a long contract and write Batman past #105.
