For a bit, then every writer for the show wanted to start a story arc on their own, and it ended up being a huge clusterfuck full of continuity errors, problems being created and solved off-screen and a sub-par romantic scene that was never really important, but the crew never knew whether to ditch the whole thing or make it more impactful, leading to it feeling forced and incredibly insincere.
They instead dropped whacky dimension-hopping and the fun adventure side, leaning more into a sort of medieval drama for kids with overt racism criticism and political overtones that never quite fit into the show.
