Only difference to today's even worse stylized art is, that at least back then you had to be somewhat aware of what human anatomy looks like to get work. So his work wasn't complete ass like some of the stuff we have out there nowadays.
Now any kind of a noodle physique gets a pass because people are so used to seeing that crap.

Had he continued to grow he would have gotten past his limitations easily. Instead he stopped improving and hasn't gotten past his shortcomings. Not that he had any reason to do so. Not like he had a shortage of work.
