>>107656687That is the most egregious misuse of the term "flop" I've ever seen. This is a manga series, not a subscription service, One Piece's incredible number of sales aren't somehow invalidated or rendered unprofitable because later volumes sell less. That's not how this industry works.
Decline in sales is likely due to fatigue. Expecting people to buy 90+ volumes of a manga is asking a lot, tankobon aren't cheap when you add them up like that and it also demands a lot of storage space dedicated to it. Most people just read One Piece in Jump after catching up to the story and then you also have people that only buy tankobon volumes for their favorite arcs, and for most people that was arcs in the earlier parts of the story.
One Piece has broad demographic appeal but has always mainly targeted kids, the next generation of kids that grew up reading One Piece in its post-timeskip days in Jump might end up driving sales up again, but it's not really that important to a series of One Piece's stature. At this point it's like Doraemon, a series that propels itself forward by sheer inertia.
