>>107554545I believe what you're referring to is dark humor, akin to (but really not of the same quality as) George Carlin, Lois CK, or, to put it in the perspective of cartoons, South Park, Family Guy or American Dad. Taking dark or otherwise taboo matters and just viciously mocking them, which Rick and Morty combines with affectionate parody of common scifi tropes, "relatable" humor, and plain silliness. It's the same reason people watch Full Metal Jacket and laugh at basically everything the GSgt Hartmann character says. It's a form of comedy that basically takes the dark, fucked up shit human beings think and experience, and just presents it in a humorous light. And of course most comedy inherently contains a certain degree of exaggeration. The whole show would probably be looked on in a very different light if it was live action.
