The creator's name is Diego Molano. Not sure about whether he's ever been to Mexico or not, but he said in an interview that he wants the show to break the barrier in terms of Latino representation for children's television, and to give Latino kids insight into their culture. He voices Victor, and it becomes pretty clear early on that he's new to VA work.

Haven't meet a chicano ever, but based on what i was able to see from time to time, i think it's because they are just americans with american mindsets. There needs to be a huge need for "identity" like all americans, and use the mexican heritage as a token instead of it being an actual part of the personality.

Marco is half-white because Nefcy's husband, who Marco is based on, is also half-white. Valentino is mixed probably because execs/the creator wanted to make a character who approached the Mexican stuff as if it were fascinating and new. Also, because too many ethnic characters scare kids or something.

It's weird that he's the half-white one because in the "Suerte" episode, he was the one properly pronouncing the card names while Victor could barely speak Spanish.

If you're referring to that Comic-Con teaser (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atutlhoyc_Q), it likely wasn't footage from the final show since it was animated by Owen Dennis himself. The crew probably hadn't even started getting finished animation back from overseas by the time the teaser was released. The show's gonna look just fine.

Another thing to note is that we still don't actually know what Infinity Train's character designs will be like since we only have Tulip, a corgi, and a tiny spherical robot to base it off of. There will likely be a whole number of unique designs throughout the show.

The only thing to talk about is how disappointing it is. Not terrible, just disappointing.

Victor and Valentino are barebones archetypes with nothing unique giving them real identity.
The jokes have been flat. El Colorado was funny, but only because of Kevin Michael Richardson's delivery.
The first taste we got of the supernatural/mythology was a campy prankster god going on a pedestrian pranking spree.

And it's pretty clear how superficial the "representation" is. Unless CN is going to give this show the TTG treatment, it's not going beyond one season, and no one will remember it.

I'm not hoping for a miracle - just a better thing to sit down to that V&V has been so far, besides Creek kid show (and maybe DC girls, which simply isn't that good so far, either.). Hell, I'm looking forward to more SCI over this, even if that isn't wishing for much, either, when the best character (Suzie) is someone we're supposed to hate, too (something that always seems to backfire when it's dictated, as well.).

I don't know, maybe we're being too hard on the show. Sure, it's a complete failure in terms of Latino (when did "LatinX" become a thing?) representation, but I can pinpoint at least one thing in each episode that I liked, except for maybe the babysitting one.

Given time, V&V might actually get better if Molano is hearing the right criticism for it from the right places.

It's an obvious attempt at making another Gravity Falls clone. And those are always mediocre and forgettable since no one involved really wants to make it and just kind of does whatever to churn it out before they move on to their own personal projects that they actually care about.

For its flaws Gravity Falls was still a passion project and the crew at least in season 1 legitimately tried to make it into something worthwhile. None of the other clones have had half as much effort.
