I really don't get why so many adaptations utterly fail to get Alice herself right. Even the Disney version toned her down significantly, resulting in a version who's still cute, but not as compelling. And then there's the Burton version, who is a nearly blank waif with completely tacked on traits that never exist for more than a single scene.
It's ALICE in Wonderland. She's kind of important, but so many people are almost indifferent to her. What a crock.
