Ditto for the various figurines , which almost never mention her backstory or the name of “Betsy Braddock” anywhere on the box. You are delusional if you think the mainstream audience knows about her being British inside , and likes it when they do learn about it. As I said before , the reaction when they do learn about it is always “WTF”. And for enough of them , especially the Gen-Z Millenials who came of age in the current era of “SJW PC Wokeness”, their reaction extends further into being offended because of YellowFace/cultural appropriation. That’s who Marvel is targeting now, and who they’re trying to avoid offending. Not the stereotypical Comic Book Guys who they don’t really respect since they figure like any addicts, they’re hooked enough for life that they’ll stick with the series no matter what happens.
BTW, Asian-American identity politics is not a thing? Not in your day , I’m sure , but the 00’s ScarJo’s GITS adaptation wouldn’t have become controversial for “whitewashing if it wasn’t . The 2019 HellBoy wouldn’t have stuck to the original ethnicity of Daimyou to avoid “whitewashing” if it wasn’t. That movie set in Hawaii starting Emma Stone wouldn’t be controversial for the same so-called “Whitewashing” if it wasn’t. Etcetera .
