If the enemy is at doorstep, if the enemy is being uncompromising, if the enemy is being unrelenting, then the enemy needs to be exterminated. Solaria started her war as RETALIATION. Mina gave herself up to the project as an act of PROTECTION.
The writers, having never read the Book, don't ever mention this, and now she's a villain.
