We'll have to wait for the Eternals movie to learn if they're Celestial experiments and if the Titans are an Eternals offshot, so we can't confirm what exactly Thanos is until then but in the comics he's an Eternal with Deviant Syndrome, which means he's super superhuman, he's also genetically, mystically and power cosmically(?) enhanced himself further so he's far and away from normal. Someone's probably going to point out how originally Thanos' looked like the rest of his race, or more accurately vice versa but that's no longer the case. He's the one purple dude now.
Anyway In the movie when Thanos shows Titan before the incident we can see what appears to be more humanoid figures but we can't assume just from that he's a mutant of that race since it's entirely possible Titan in the MCU is just a hub for various races like elsewhere.
What we can assume though is simply this, Banner has only recently been enhanced, Thanos was likely born as he is and has had all his life to develop, plus his activities since at least Gamora's childhood are as a warlord so he has been fully exercising the extent of his capabilities for some time. Hulk is only implied to have been doing some form of frequent training and combat during the few years under Grandmaster, and even then it's implied some of his fights are fixed so we can't say how far he's been pushing.
In conclusion no matter how you call it Thanos has way too much of a head start in a variety of areas to be considered just a normal alien.
