I rewatched 89 the other week and it wasn't as good as I remember. Other than Jack Nicholson as the Joker (he was fantastic), it was just... missing something.
Main problem I have? Keaton. He isn't Batman. He's barely Bruce Wayne. He doesn't look, sound, or act the part, and he's so short. He's shorter than his romantic interest. Batman cannot be a manlet. Another problem is the suit they had him in meant he couldn't move his neck, so if he wanted to look right, left, up, or down, he has to pivot his ENTIRE body and it ends up looking cartoonish and silly.
Credit where its due, it was the first Batman movie, and it propelled him to the world's most popular hero where as before he was miles behind Superman. But it shows there was a looong way to go.
Now, Batman and Robin. That was kino.
