Girls like Tom and they couldn't find him any other role. It wasn't the only option though. The fandom was pushing Tom/Janna back during S2 and many tumblrinas got really excited with the S3 previews announcing Tom would have a bigger role because JanTom could become a thing but never happened. Maybe Cotugno used her influence for having Jankie eventually
