Disneyland and Disney World are entirely different beasts because they aren't aiming for the same thing.
Disneyland's got a more cozy feeling than the Magic Kingdom, and is far better at its flow than the latter. California Adventure is Eisner's flailing from the fuckup that was EuroDisney and has been a subsequent catchup from all the whys since. Some good, some meh, nothing really bad but it has no direction. It needs to just call itself the Disney Vault, and embrace the hodgepodge nature.
Disney World is four parks, a bunch of hotels, a shopping district, and all the trimmings of a city. It's equally a mess as Disneyland is in IPs and direction, I think though we're waiting for the MK 50th to get a new identity.
If you live in the red, go to Disneyland. If you live in the blue, or aren't American, go to Disney World first. Easy flights from Alaska or Southwest depending on which side of the Rockies you dropped in on. If you're in the white, don't go to either unless you've got more plans than just Disney in the area. There's no point in comparing the differences here on 4chan in a 2000 letter post, because that isn't enough. Foodies, pin-seekers, drinkers, thrillseekers, historicals, there's a whole bunch of reasons to see one or other and in-depth you really should just watch a youtube version. They're both fine to try, go to both if you can, but otherwise whatever's the closer one.
