>>106139021The reason why /pol/ is so widespread and cancerous is because of the nature of politics. It, like religion, is generally backed up by some kind of moral imperative, regardless of what ideology you might hold (Libertarians believe the moral imperative to be "live and let live", Nationalists believe the moral imperative to be "preserve the nation and culture", communists believe the moral imperative to be "everyone must be equal", etc and so on). It is human nature to want to convince others to behave morally, and when multiple people have different ideas of what is considered 'moral', they will try to convince eachother that their moral imperative is the correct one.
Basically what's going on here is that you have a bunch of moral busybodies who want to 'enlighten' the unknowing masses to their objectively correct moral imperative, and places like /co/ are viewed as being filled with people diametrically opposed to that moral imperative. Therefore, they believe by striking at the heart of their perceived enemy, they will either succeed in, or have better luck in the future of, 'enlightening' the masses.
I guarantee you that if the roles were reversed, where /co/ was full of right-wingers and /pol/ was full of commies or some other extreme leftist ideology, this would still be happening.
