>>106127774I saw it for the first time last week. Animation was really nice.
Second half was extremely inferior to the first half though. The moment Gwen shows up in costume, they basically introduce three new characters and also Spider-Pig it just feels worse than when it was boomer Peter and his sidekick Miles trying to go from being a normal kid to a superhero.
The Aunt May scene really super irked me for some reason. Boomer Pete lost his Aunt May so this is emotional for him, and Aunt May lost her Ben O'Reily so she's devastated without her news broadcaster. There's emotion happening, and then Miles pops in because he's the protagonist, but something about it bothered me because there actually felt like a pool of potential in that scene that was just wasted.
Also Mile's superhero arc was ridiculously fastpaced, and the fact that its entire culmination is in some shitty music video that is really well animated was a big peeve.
I liked the film, but beyond the animation I think it was alright in all. I think the film would have been better if it had been entirely about Boomer Peter and Miles. Gwen could have been a background character that only shows up in costume at the end, but she didn't really have any character at all, and her troubled backstory doesn't match the dialogue she has in the film. Plus it would have been nice seeing an experienced Peter fighting multiple villains using shit he got from his crimefighting time, while Miles is trying to do it completely fresh.
But it was okay. I hope the sequel is about just Miguel and a new roster of Spider-men(women) and not Miles or Gwen as the central protagonists, but I doubt it.
