God damnit. It hurts. It really fucking hurts.
This is our mythology /co/. Throughout the ages every few generations has a story that defined them and parts of their culture. Ancient myths. Old religions. Folklore. Legends of Yore. Fables. Novels. Books. Scrolls. Epics.
As we become more modernized it changed face, but its concept never strayed.
Legends could be written down with our written language.
Books began to appear in libraries.
The Printing Press ensured rapid production for all.
Radio further spread and changed how we told the tales.
Television put images to the stories.
Color and sound painted our fictional worlds.
Animation brought fantastic ideas to life.
Stories evolved. Gilgamesh to Beowulf, Odysseyus to King Arthur, Aladdin to Tarzan, Hercules to Brer Rabbit, Oedipus to Snow White.
In our age our ultimate symbol was Adventure Time. A decade spanning animation that was not simply episodic plots but had lore, a story, something not one but many first and second world cultures around the world could understand and watch.
AND IT GOT FUCKED. This is our legacy. We fucked up royally and it's there in the history books. A century from now they're going to study this moment of time. Adventure Time will be like those required readings most of us had in school and the students will go "This shit is lame".
We fucked up.
