See: Beauty and the Beast, where they changed Belle to attack all the furniture she initially sees and try to escape the castle by making a bedsheet rope with all the interviews saying she was a lot stronger now. The previous movie where she collapses on the bed and starts crying is seen as weak and makes her a "lame girl character".
If girl characters aren't acting like action stars or drill sergeants, they're viewed as bad characters because as you know, any character that ISN'T a white man basically represents the entire community.
