>>105958837I had a big issue with Coco, as well as several other Disney/Pixar films as of the last ten years, in that they'll make this conflict which is easily understandable, and is usually between two protagonists, and that's all the movie needs. But then, as if to make the film idiot-proof, they have to add in a bad guy, usually as a twist. Coco's conflict was the kid tryin to reconcile his love of playin music with his family's bitterness towards it. That's it, that's all the movie needs. Coco remembering her father and the song shortly before she died, great. But no, we gotta add in Ernesto de la Cruz for no reason at all except to add a little tension towards the end. But even that ain't necessary cause the kid, the skeleton father, and the old lady were ALL on a tickin clock. The old lady Coco was gonna die, skeleton dad was gonna die when she died cause no one would be left to remember him, and the kid was gonna die for bein in the Land of the Dead for too long. I mean really, that ain't enough? C'mon, man. It's this kinda overlappin stuff that makes the movie feel like a drag, especially since the inclusion of Ernesto de la Cruz makes it way more predictable.
Even then, it's still better than a lotta the other Pixar films. I'd put it after Toy Story and Incredibles.
