Bendis' idea that "Earth and its problems are barely part of the galazy at all" is in COMPLETE contradiction with DC lore and Snyder's current Justice League run, where Earth is in fact a VERY big deal. Everybody's mad at Earth for breaking the Source Wall for instance.

It really should have been one of the Lanterns (probably Arisa, because Kilowog's species wouldn't understand the idea of a family member being abusive), interposing themselves between Jon and Jor. Repeatedly asking Jon to give them permission to escort him back to Earth, with Jon waffling and eventually saying it's okay, that he was just a little homesick or something.
Then Kilowog, now understanding the subtext, gives him some sort of communications device to contact him if he needs help. You could have it instantly be broken in traveling to Earth-3 or whatever to continue the story, but Bendis is basically treating the GLC like they aren't... I don't even know, like they're mall cops? Superman is a force for good, so great, that the Guardians let an entire planet die to ensure he was created. He's saved the universe multiple times.
The GLC didn't low-key keep tabs on his son after he asked for their help and then awkwardly said he didn't need it. Superman should spit on these two the next time he sees them for being so damn lazy.

By the way:

What's depressing is just how predictable it's all been. Everyone at /co/ was calling what Bendis would do, including aging up Jon to 17 or 18, screwing up the marriage (although Dan Didio wanted that, apparently) and laying the groundwork for Jon's ID as Superboy to get publicaly outed. And lo and behold, Bendis does it every time. Such a hallmark of a bad writer.

My bet is that the timeline changed when Post-Crisis and New52 Superman fused and changed the events of Forever Evil. Thus they were not killed.

Ignoring any debate about quality, Super Sons has two major disadvantages against it: It's implied to be set in the past because of Bendis' decision to change things, so people are less likely to pick it up because it's not "current" or they just don't like Bendis' take on the character so they're not picking up anything else. Second, it's not the MAIN book. Bendis is on both the major Superman titles.

That being said, going by Comichron he's losing orders faster than the Rebirth run. Even the New 52 Superman title didn't hit 52,000 that fast, and that had a lot of problems with having to switch from Perez to Jurgens to Giffen. Maybe you can argue that it was the honeymoon of the New 52 launch that allowed it to stay up higher than normal, but Bendis had his fanbase and popularity at Marvel, so in theory it should've transferred over. So I'm actually kinda shocked Bendis' Superman isn't doing as well as Rebirth or New 52.

Good points all around... it's just frustrating. But I understand what you're all saying. Superman is a major character, while the Super Sons book is just a backup title that no longer matters because of Bendis wanting to change things to suit his (and Didio's) own ends. I get it. And I do hope that the numbers for Superman continue to drop fast so that someone with a brain at DC might figure out that this is not what most fans of the character wanted after Rebirth.

Ultimately though, (and this is a larger problem that I have) I feel like the good books aren't selling while the garbage ones are often doing solid business (at least in the current climate). For instance, Hawkman is one of the best DC books out there right now. Great art. Solidly written. But it's Hawkman, so nobody gives a shit. It just makes me wonder if the people crying out for quality material in comics are serious or not.

Every DC book other than Jurgens' Action Comics and Tomasi's Superman ignored that shit. According to Superman Reborn, Post-Infinite Crisis (Geoff Johns/Gary Frank's Christopher Reeve-lite Superman) Superman donned the New 52 suit after coming back from the dead after his fight with Doomsday, making the New 52 incarnation of the Justice League a quasi-late 90's formation. Every other book ignored that and kept treating the New 52 Justice League as the original formation.

Since i got the pic here in my PC i will post it just because. but whatever the intention was Rebirth has been an inconsistent mess regarding continuity since from the start. The only thing the other writers got from this is that the New 52 Superman, more commonly known as Superbro, never existed, and that the whole SMWW never existed because of it, despite there being references to said relationship in plenty of Rebirth books prior to this arc.

At this point sales were 11,200 higher during rebirth. Hopefully Bendis sales keep falling DC sees the error of their ways and reverse Bendis's changes.

>Brian Michael Bendis has been writing both Superman and Action Comics for a while now. Whilst I’ve personally really been enjoying his work on Action Comics as he focuses on the Daily Planet crew and the mystery with Leviathan. However, when it comes to his Superman I haven’t really been a fan since the beginning. The arc with Rogol Zaar was just alright, and this next one focusing on Superboy hasn’t been great.

>The positives of this issue are that Bendis isolates Jon and Jor-el and really focuses on the worries between them. Jor-el is kind of coming to grips because his whole world view has been changed as the science he believed and trusted him, was overthrown by Dr Manhattan. Jon doesn’t know his place in the world, especially when his dad is Superman. The other positive was when Superman goes and punches Mongul as an expression of his rage, which is understandable as a father.

>Whilst I liked these aspects of the issue, I have to say that I found the issue to be boring. For me a form of entertainment being boring is the worst thing it can be as something that is bad can still be enjoyable. There is beautiful art from Ivan Reis and Brandon Peterson but it feels like a waste as the main story isn’t interesting.

>The last page reveals that Jon has been transported to earth-3 and meets the crime syndicate. It feels like it is almost with each issue of whatever Bendis writes has a problem continuity wise and ignores things that have come before. The crime syndicate in the new 52 were all killed and it just seems like this has been ignored.

Yes, Diana even ditching Steve for a while is even still canon because Sam Lane brought it up to Steve during Metal. The question is, who was Diana seeing in between if her relationship with Clark isn't canon? Was she seeing anyone at all? My headcanon is Diana's inappropriate pining for a married Clark from pre-flashpoint remained in continuity after the merge and she left Steve to fixate on it, then realised Clark would never be with her, then she realised she just had "easy" feelings for Clark and cooled off their friendship (hence why they're more like colleagues now than friends) and got back with Steve afterwards

This is really staggering. I've been a fan of the Superboy concept since the 90's when Conner was introduced. I've wanted him back in comics for a long time, but then I also really warmed up to the character of Jon.

Now that they're both back, I want neither of them around, thanks to Bendis. Between this and actively wanting Star Wars to fail, I feel like my entire world perspective regarding my nerdy hobbies has flipped upside down.

Bendis did the exact same thing during his Marvel run. He had the galaxy treat the Earth like some problematic backwater planet that nobody cared about. He even made it a plot point that after the GotG's ship blew up, they had no way to leave Earth because Earth is just that primitive apparently, even though superheroes casually go to space all the damn time.

Sad but true. Tomasi did some decent stuff with Lois early on, until it was mostly all Strong Mom, Strong Wife, and there were some nice Adventures of Superman digital first, but she's mostly been shat on since Flashpoint (although Lois Lane and the Resistance was one of the best things from that entire shitty thing).

I remember correctly, early on, Geoff said that when the last issue of Doomsday Clock is released, the rest of the DC universe would've catched up to where Doomsday Clock begins. So Doomsday Clock is supposed to take place in the future from the rest of the DC books. But they probably said fuck it an issue after that.

What's genuinely bad about this page is the wrong character beats; up until Mister Oz, what either the pre-FP or New 52/Merged Rebirth Clark knew of Jor El was essentially all history, so there would be no basis for the statement Bendis puts in Superman's mouth on this page, and while Clark can and should be able to have moments of anger or turmoil, the canonically history of the character is that he knows full well he cannot go nilly willy and express that anger or manifest that turmoil physically on Earth.

It's just genuinely bad writing in a run full of them.

Owlman has been killed with Grid and Metron at the end of Darkseid War, the panel when you see him, is in the middle of Darkseid War.

Hopefully sales fall bad enough and DC is able to put two and two together and realize how badly destroying Jon Kent and the Superman family has been received and reverse the changes. Jon needs to be de-aged, Lois and Clark together raising him, and Supersons properly relaunched.

Geoff Johns doesn't care about Superbro. He could have kept Grant Morrison's run on Action Comics canon, since that was simple a story about the new Superman beginning his career and his relationship with Lois. Johns said fuck that noise and made his Superman: Secret Origin mini canon in its place.

The only things kept from the Superbro period are the Kents being dead, the fact Superman wore the high-tech suit for a short period, and some villains - mainly that blond guy from Johns' run on Superman.

In some ways Geoff Johns is like Stan Lee. Very self-promotive.

You know, I have problems with a lot of Geoff Johns comics, but even at his worst he at least appears to try to make what happens after his "cool reveals" seem cool and exciting, and keeps the momentum going, even if it's fucking stupid. Bendis does a cool reveal of something and then the next issue it's vapid shit that makes the entire thing a waste of time.

It's like the difference between Flashpoint and Age of Ultron. I hated Flashpoint, but at least it looked like Johns knew how to keep momentum going when showing the alternate Earth and all the things going on. Age of Ultron's attempts to show alternate Earths just stops everything dead in its tracks, even at moments that were supposed to be shocking.

When I see the CSA in Trinity War it actually felt like shit was going to go down and they seemed like a threat in Forever Evil, even if I don't think the comic was that great. When I see the CSA in Bendis' Superman, I'm reminded "oh yeah, remember that time he showed Apocalypse's alternate Horsemen? I don't even remember what happened after that reveal. What a fucking waste of time that was."
