What if Ruby loses her eyes but it doesn't get rid of her Silver Eye powers? Eyes are just a window into the soul and a window can be broken without destroying whats inside. Maria couldn't use her powers again because she was broken but Ruby has RESOLVE.

It would also present an opportunity to for Yang to be a sister again. I could imagine that once the villain cripples Ruby, they try to escape as Yang goes DEFCON 1 and burns down the whole forest/town/countryside in pursuit.

Meanwhile, Ruby is at the hospital crying for her sister wondering where she is and Blake has to go get her while Weiss looks after Rubes.

Yang realizes that in trying to kill the villain she hurt Ruby and that being there for family is more important than revenge.

That's disappointing on multiple levels. Its easily been one of the weakest elements of the story but they ended up making it a large part of the lore, while robbing it of any real value associated with those themes by relegating it to solely being Blake's back story.

So Salem orders Tock to kill Maria, or at the very least remove her ability to use Silver Eyes. Maria tells Ruby that her father thought someone was snuffing out people with Silver Eyes. Salem makes it very clear to her underlings that Ruby is to not be killed.

Ruby is Ozpin's smaller, more honest soul. Salem wants to watch Ozpin burn. And she said to Cinder to never underestimate the usefulness when she was asked about negociating with bandits and keeping Ruby alive, so most likely the answer was for both questions.

So Salem either wants to break Ruby or turn her to her side, mostly to spite Oz. Kiling her wouldn't be enough.

I'd say the most logical explenation is that Salem didn't knew SEW could kill her until relatively recently.

With minimal extra characters it would follow that it was Summer that blasted Salem and caused some lasting damage(the being stuff), making Salem realise that SEW could finally help her die.

Thus no more agents in the schools getting all SEW killed on their first mission.

I feel it isn't there yet but this is the start of it.
Their relationship now is very notably not like it was before at Beacon, because neither of them are the same as they were at Beacon. What they're forging now is a new bond, built off of the broken old one, far deeper than before. They came off as much more intimate than they did in their school days and I feel that's intentional.

I disagree, personally. The best fights are ones that are visually stimulating at a glance but packed enough with detail to where on repeats you notice things you didn't before.
That's a balance that's hard to do, to be fair. Even most of the Monty fights didn't quite hit it. I think Yang vs Mercury and Yang vs Neo were ones that did though.

I just feel like I lose a little of the magic on second and third watches. My favorite Monty fight of all time is Weiss vs Banesaw, even if it didn't have a very satisfying end, and I really liked that that fight had a lot of speed but was also very easy to follow on a first watch. I think they look a bit at it for style though. Yang fought a lot like Bakugo does now in regards to how she uses her gauntlets in the air, what with the aerial trajectory changes and jumping around.

Yeah, I’m not sympathetic to that at all. He was written as less lame and melodramatic in his last couple episodes but it’s not like they changed the character particularly and it’s kind of a red flag to call him relatable. I think a lot of others just wanted him to be a powerful/threatening villain with a cool fighting style though.

I've tend to notice this trend that the more simpler a series is, the more people will overanalyze it and delve deep into of deep philosophical analysis of whatever it is. They tend to make claims and find evidence and allegories to support those claims rather than looking at the work straight forward and drawing conclusions from what you see.Those kinds of people like to act like they're smart but really they're more stupid than the people they treat as uneducated because they waste time analyzing a cartoon rather than being productive.

Third party here, but speaking personally I wanted more to be done with the White Fang plot than to just revolve around Blake and her guilt and personal redemption issues. Adam went from having motivations outside of Blake, to revolving completely around her, once the organization became defunct, eventually existing solely for her and Yang's development, as a reward for their character arcs. It felt very much like the writing team were rushing to wipe their hands of his existence rather than give him a satisfying story on his own merit as a character. I see the same happening with Cinder, as her motivations now revolve entirely around Ruby and her revenge, when she could easily have what she wants (more maiden powers) if she just stuck to Salem's plans. Then she could go after Ruby all she wants.

I remember when this was posted last year. I read through all of it and enjoyed it immensely. Honestly I think this guy was probably just doing it as a thought experiment, reinforcing his own knowledge of the subjects and themes he's exploring in his post but using Weiss because he happens to enjoy her. They've been building up Atlas since Volume 2. When it became apparent that the plot was moving to Mistral, people were wondering "Why not Atlas?"

I like that Qrow is in the top 3. He earned it after this volume. While the conclusion of his arc was weak, the first few scenes (and honestly every Qrow scene before the finale) where he's dealing with his alcoholism were really well done.

Yea, they remained the cheerful light hearted fighting anime that they were before the end of V3 then the "its just a cartoon" argument would be completely reasonable. But now that they've decided that they've graduated from that style and are moving onto more serious themes and topics and a much more dramatic tone, we have to take our judgement of the series a bit more seriously as well. That is what RT is wanting, they're wanting to show that RWBY is a mature show now, and as such we should judge it like it's a mature show.

Sure it's young adult fiction, but even that means that it's permitted to come under scrutiny when it makes a mockery of certain topics like abuse or racism. Not to say it has, I personally think they haven't done anything outright offensively bad, it can definitely be improved upon

On a side note, I think it's a very demeaning idea to dismiss animation as not needing to be judged or analyzed because it's simple and childish. Animation is a medium and therefore is an art form. I'd take it as far to say it may be the penultimate art, combining visual, cinematic, and the musical arts and synthesizing it into one beautiful work. Sometimes it can be good, lots of times it can be bad. It's one of the lesser appreciated art mediums, video games probably being the most under appreciated.

Whenever I think of an animated work that is praised not just for its entertainment value for kids, but for exploring more mature themes in a way that's easy and simple to digest but also does them justice, I think of Batman the Animated Series. Now there's a gem, and proof IMO that animation is more than just pretty colors and visual gags. Spiderverse is another, though I actually need to go see it myself.

Spiderverse is pretty good. It's good example of how animation can be very visually stunning and is not just a novelty to show kids and keep them entertained. Yea, you have a point. They did greatly mismanage the racism plot to an abhorrent degree. The issue was they wanted to tell a racism plot but didn't actually want to show actual racism because they were probably afraid they would get accused of being offensive or edgy or too dark and just decided to try and play it safe by telling but not showing.

In truth we should have been seeing both minor offenses like several remarks in dialogue (best usage would be with weiss) about faunus and more major racist acts like "No faunus allowed signs", police harassment, lynch mobs and racial supremacist organizations, and possible segregation laws. It would have made the arc far more convincing. Also, reducing adam to the crazed ex was a mistake. He should have been an idealistic extremist. In fact, they probably shouldn't have had him going after Blake at all. He should've ignored her and continued with his plans of fighting against the humans, with Blake finally deciding to take responsibility for him and track him down to kill him.

That genuinely confuses me, because out of all the parts of film and animation it shouldn't be the hardest to grasp in terms of what makes it work. It's arguably the easiest to understand, while admittedly being the hardest to actually do.

I kind of want to blame Youtube and the rise of "This is how you make a good fight scene" but if you're going to the effort of editing together a fifteen minute long video about the subject, with god only knows how much work put into it, there is no excuse for saying something as stupid as what he does.

Why does RT do this? That honestly has to be the laziest way of adding information into the story. It practically doesn't matter because they didn't even put that information into the show, it might as well be fan canon or random notes. I think the author of Harry Potter did shit like that and people gave her shit about it.

Q&A's are meant to clear confusion about certain things and get clarification on certain things (Or asking about production, development, and what's in store for the future)
Commentaries are meant to tell the thought process and telling why certain things are the way they are.

Neither are meant to add story bits, that's what your story is meant for. It's just lazy and tasteless do pull shit like that, either put it in or leave it out.

I just said Trigger because I like trigger's style.

But anyways, the difference between Peni and Spider-Ham is that peni's art style was kinda cringey whereas spider-ham was still aesthetically pleasing even though he was a looney toons character that clashed with the new dimension's style.

That being said, I guess there wasn't much options with Peni, they had to set her apart from all the other characters so they couldn't just copy her comic's style but they wanted to retain some inspiration from it and made her anime-esque. Still kinda wish that an actual anime studio or at least an artist would have been brought in to design her and animate her but that's probably too logistically challenging and expensive to pull off.

On your second point though, yea RWBY is an anime, japs think so at least.

Everyone hated the fact that the exposition was redundant. Yang and Weiss got their Salem Talk a volume after RNJR got their's and we got no new information, and then we get it AGAIN two eps later and still no new information. And that's not even counting the fact that RNJR did nothing for 9 episodes despite being in Mistral for like 2 months.

Regarding Yang and Weiss's talk, though, from what I've seen that's one of the most well received scenes in the entire volume and also my personal favorite scene outside of the bandit camp reunion (so I may be biased). Scenes like that can be done really well, just like >>105622607 said about JNR's moment with the statue, and it can help reinforce the sense family and camaraderie the teams feel for one another, making the tougher times feel that more important.

From what I've seen, the tumblr crowd usually dislike gay villains because at least for male characters, villains have traditionally been more feminine and the heroes more masculine. Also the villain is less likely to achieve an actual relationship by virtue of their role in the story.
